MetroWest EMS delivers high-performance, patient-centered care with a commitment to clinical excellence, modern technology, and seamless integration with fire, police, and hospitals.
As a nonprofit, our focus is not profit margins—it’s saving lives, advancing care, and supporting the health of our communities.
🚑 911 Advanced Life Support (ALS) EMS
We respond to medical and trauma emergencies across Marlborough and Hudson with paramedic-staffed ALS units and EMT-level BLS support.
Our crews are trained, equipped, and supported to operate at the highest levels of clinical care, including:
- 12-lead EKG acquisition & STEMI recognition
- Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) – blood glucose, lactate, electrolytes, troponin (coming soon)
- Surgical airways (cricothyrotomy) for difficult or failed airways
- Capnography, waveform ETCO₂, and continuous SpO₂
- Advanced pharmacology – cardiac arrest, sepsis, sedation, RSI
- Pediatric & bariatric equipment
- Real-time hospital consultation & telehealth integration
🏠 Community Paramedicine / Mobile Integrated Health (MIH)
Our MIH program brings advanced care to the home—bridging gaps between hospital discharge and long-term wellness. Services include:
- Post-discharge follow-up
- Chronic condition monitoring
- Medication reconciliation
- Home safety checks
- Social needs screening (food, housing, mental health)
By intervening early, we reduce 911 calls, improve quality of life, and strengthen the local healthcare safety net.
🚲 Special Operations: Bike Team
Our MetroWest EMS Bike Team provides rapid medical response in high-density environments where ambulances can’t easily reach. Equipped with ALS gear, AEDs, and comms, these specially trained medics can:
- Navigate crowded festivals, parades, and street fairs
- Reach patients quickly in parks, trails, and downtown zones
- Support police and fire during public safety incidents
- Reduce response times during special events
Bike medics are deployed in pairs and trained in crowd navigation, tactical communication, and medical response under pressure. It’s fast, agile EMS—where and when it’s needed most.

🧪 Advanced Diagnostics & Innovation
At MetroWest EMS, we are committed to integrating cutting-edge technologies to enhance prehospital care. Our advanced diagnostics enable rapid, informed decision-making in the field, improving patient outcomes and streamlining transitions to definitive care.
🔬 Point-of-Care Testing (POCT)
We utilize the epoc® Blood Analysis System, a handheld, wireless device that delivers lab-accurate results at the patient’s side in under a minute. This system provides critical data on:
- Blood gases (pH, pCO₂, pO₂)
- Electrolytes (Na⁺, K⁺, Cl⁻, Ca²⁺)
- Metabolites (glucose, lactate, creatinine, BUN)
- Hematocrit and hemoglobin levels
With a minimal blood sample, the epoc system allows our paramedics to assess and manage conditions such as sepsis, diabetic emergencies, and respiratory failure promptly .
🩻 Prehospital Ultrasound (POCUS)
Our paramedics are trained in Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), enabling real-time imaging to support critical decisions. Applications include:
- Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma (FAST): Detecting internal bleeding in trauma patients.
- Cardiac Ultrasound: Assessing cardiac activity during cardiac arrest or shock.
- Lung Ultrasound: Identifying pneumothorax, pleural effusion, or pulmonary edema.
- Vascular Access: Guiding intravenous line placement in challenging scenarios.
POCUS enhances our diagnostic capabilities, allowing for immediate interventions and better coordination with receiving facilities .
🚀 Commitment to Innovation
Beyond POCT and POCUS, MetroWest EMS is exploring additional innovations to elevate prehospital care:
- Telemedicine Integration: Facilitating real-time consultations with emergency physicians during complex cases.
- Wearable Technology: Monitoring vital signs continuously during transport.
- Advanced Airway Management Tools: Including video laryngoscopy for difficult intubations.
Our dedication to adopting and mastering advanced technologies ensures that we provide the highest standard of emergency medical services to our community.
